day 2 and 3 Demo

Alright sorry about the delay in posting, the camera got left at the house. Day two, we took out the rest of the carpet, most of the tack, and did some more demo. Our good friend Ryan came over to see the house, while in Khloe's room he started bouncing on the floor. Not a good sign. Brett pulled up a little of the floor. The floor joists are too far apart. So that needs to be fixed. Also there are piles of bricks under the joists kinda of as supports. Jason said that's what they use to do back in the day. It's lasted this long so I don't think it's going to fall. Since we are framing out Khloe's room we were going to do the ceiling as well, but the boys got smart and decided to just tear out the ceiling and just use the old beams. saved us a ton of money in lumber. Also we had Brett's cousin come over (Chris) and he helped clean out the space above the garage. There were old pictures from some owner. We would like to find them so they can have their pictures back. Lots of racoons stuff up there too. We took out the ceiling in the front room too because the sheetrock was bowed. the boys thought it was just because they didn't screw the sheets in the middle. turns out the supports are the wrong way. They should be turned on the skinny side. And under the supports is nice popcorn ceiling so that came out too. Thats why Brett is filthy! After taking out the ceiling in Khloe's room and the front room
Khloe's ceiling

Upstairs, ripped out the carpet, it's not mold the carpet pad just stuck to the plywood. Found some water damage too but we think it's old

Ceiling before we ripped out the popcorn. The beams should be turned on their sides

Khloe's floor. The beams are in the brick but because they are long they piled bricks up in different spots to help support the beams. Fun times!!

Demo Day 1

I started with demo yesterday. I started taking the paneling off in Khloe's room because I thought it would be the easiest. yeah right. There were two layers of paneling and then 5 to 6 layer of wallpaper, then plaster and then the outside brick, no insulation. There are glass blocks you can see from outside that are painted over. Well I found the window under the paneling. It's a cool window so I think we are going to frame it out and scrape the paint off the outside. The baseboard was old 2 by4 covered in carpet and when we ripped it off the plaster came with it. So now there are gaps in between the hardwoods and the wall. Needless to say we have to frame and sheetrock the entire room. Including the ceiling because there was accustical tiles glued with black glue. We ripped the carpet out of Khloe's room, the boys room, the room off that, the front room, the stairs and our room. The glass window in Khloe's room. When I uncovered it I didn't know what it was so I ran away, My friend Hailey thought it was pretty funnyThe hallway, just plywoodThe boys room, there was a really cool linolium under the carpet, probably from the 40s. I'm wondering if it was the kitchen at one pointThe room off the boys room. We think it was the original porch. The black stuff in the rubber backing from the outdoor carpet we pulled up. The door jam from the boys room to this room is really think, like its a door to go outside. There is also a window missing from above the door. Back when the house was bulit they didn't have AC or swap coolers so they had windows above the doors they would open and it would let a breeze it. Also the floor in there is wood but it looks more like porch wood then hardwoods. Also there is a window in there that is covered with cardboard. We knew it was like that but when I really looked it's like that because there is no GLASS!! So we need to fix that before it gets cold. The front room. Decent hardwoods, but all the light stuff is DIRT,
Our bro-in-law is doing the electrial. THANK YOU, JASON!! We have lights with no switches and switches with no lights. Half the stuff isn't hooked up or it's hooked wrong. The ceiling fan wasn't screwed in to the ceiling lucky it didn't fall on Jason.
I think that's about it for yesterday, we are working today too so I will have more pictures tomorrow.
Thanks to Jason, Spencer and Wil for helping yesterday!!

Last pics? Maybe

When you walk up the stairs there is a door in front of you that goes to the unfinished attic. Our bedroom is to the right of the door. This is the unfinished attic. Please notice the chimmny, there is no fireplace downstairs that goes with it.

the first attic picture is to the right when you walk thru the door, the furnace is to your left, almost behind you.
Laundry room off the kitchen, the door in front goes out side

When in the laundry room if you turn to your left there is another door, this is the addition. it is not finished

Second to last pictures (I think)

Khloe's room, was the originl front room (that's why there is no closet) thought the walls were wallpaper, nope its paneling.

Finally Pictures

We did a walk thru today for the house. The people are supposed to be out but as you can see there is still TONS of stuff in the house. I can only put 5 pictures so there will be alot of posts!! Front porch. I love the double doors, dont have to worry about a key because they don't shut for some reason.
The foyer, it's a weird angle and you can't really see how big it is. I have another angle later

Almost here!!

Closing at 1pm on tuesday!! Can't believe we are buying a house!!

Closing on Tuesday!

Found out yesterday that it looks like it's going to be tuesday. I was hoping for this friday, but there were some unseen problems. First there was a lien on the house. Usually a contractor puts a lien on the house when you dont pay them but this was from fees resulting from their divorce. But luckily it was taken care of right after we found out about it. But because of this we can't sign on friday (which I was hoping for because Khloe starts school on monday!) So it looks like it's going to be tuesday which actually works out better. The people have 48 hours to vacate afte closing so next friday we can start on the renovation. I am a little worried about what is going to greet us when we get there. This lady does not want to sell this house but because she can't afford it after her divorce she has no choice, and the husband wants out of it so bad he's willing to pay for half of the huge dumpster rental. It has been an interesting process to say the least!
One good thing about signing on tuesday, it's our 6 year Anniversary!! What a great present to give each other!!

What a house!!

From now this blog will be documenting the buying of our house. This is the joy in my life right now. I won't say it hasn't had it's up and downs but once we get the house the way we want it. It will be the house we have always wanted. It has a huge yard for the kids to play in and for a garden. It has lots of storage and lots of room for everyone. So once we sign, hopefully within a week or so, the people move out I can take pictures of before and while we make it ours and then after so you can compare. This is quite the adventure that we are embarking on and I hope everyone else enjoys the ride as well!!
